Abstract


Indonesia is located in the seismic prone region with many cities have showing the rapid development. The cities have built the buildings with various unique plan-shape and unsymmetrically as well, which is challenging the structural engineer its design and construction phase. The plan-shape issue is highlighted in this study, especially the structural response due to seismic ground motion. The building structure model used in this study is 4-story regular plan-shape steel building which is idealized as the irregular building with L, T, and U shapes. The steel building structure is assumed to be located at medium soil in Padang City. The results indicate no significant difference in the top displacement of each building model for nonlinear condition. The gap shows only in the floor rotation of the building in nonlinear condition which is dominantly performed by the T-shape building compared to the others.
