TRANSNATIONAL DRUG TRAFFICKING AND ITS SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACTS: AN ISLAMIC LEGAL PERSPECTIVE ON COMBATING NARCOTICS CRIME

Yogi Prasetya Sinambela

Abstract

This paper explores the issue of transnational drug trafficking, emphasizing its profound socio-economic and public health consequences. It highlights the complex nature of drug smuggling networks and their impact on national security, economic stability, and societal well-being. The study further integrates Islamic legal perspectives, arguing that Islamic law condemns narcotics trafficking due to its destructive effects on individuals and communities. By comparing national criminal laws with Islamic jurisprudence, the paper proposes a multifaceted approach to combat drug trafficking that incorporates both punitive measures and rehabilitation. This research underscores the need for coordinated international law enforcement, public health initiatives, and community-based interventions, with a focus on justice and mercy as prescribed in Islamic teachings. The paper concludes by advocating for comprehensive policies that balance legal frameworks with preventive and restorative approaches to address the global drug crisis.
