IMPLEMENTATION OF ISLAMIC COUNSELING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ADOLESCENT MENTAL HEALTH

Fitri Widianti

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical developmental stage characterized by rapid physical, emotional, and cognitive changes. These transitions often lead to psychological vulnerabilities such as anxiety, identity confusion, and behavioral problems. Islamic counseling, grounded in Qur’anic principles, prophetic guidance, and spiritual psychology, offers a holistic approach to nurturing mental well-being. This paper explores the theoretical foundations, methods, and practical implementation of Islamic counseling in strengthening adolescents’ mental health. The discussion highlights how Islamic therapeutic techniques-such as tazkiyah al-nafs (purification of the soul), muhasabah (self-reflection), tawakkul (trust in God), and religious coping-promote resilience, emotional regulation, and positive identity formation. Practical models of Islamic counseling in schools, family settings, and community institutions are also examined.
