Abstract

Oil palm productivity is strongly influenced by pollination success, particularly under conditions of low male flower availability, which can limit pollen supply and pollinating insect populations. PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Regional 1 Kebun Rambutan developed the Hatch and Carry Generasi 3.0 technique as an assisted-pollination technology to increase the population and distribution of the pollinating weevil Elaeidobius kamerunicus in Socfindo oil palm areas with a low male flower ratio. This study evaluated its effectiveness in increasing E. kamerunicus population, fruit set, fruit to bunch, and production components. The study was conducted in 14 mature oil palm blocks, comprising seven Hatch and Carry (HC) and seven non-Hatch and Carry (NHC) blocks, with the block as the experimental unit. Observed parameters included E. kamerunicus population, fruit set, fruit to bunch, bunch weight, bunch number, and production. Results showed that Hatch and Carry Generasi 3.0 increased the average E. kamerunicus population from 113,957 to 182,486 individuals (60.14%). Fruit set increased from 66.36% to 74.86% (12.88%), while fruit to bunch increased from 56.77% to 61.39% (8.14%). Bunch weight, bunch number, and production increased by 13.95%, 11.16%, and 27.02%, respectively. Statistical analysis showed significant differences between HC and NHC for all parameters. The correlation between E. kamerunicus population and fruit set was very strong (rs = 0.975). Therefore, Hatch and Carry Generasi 3.0 was effective in improving pollinator population, pollination success, and oil palm production components.
