Analysis Of Reading Literacy Skills Among Sixth Grade Elementary School Students Based On Natural And Social Sciences (IPAS) Content In The Merdeka Curriculum

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia emphasizes holistic competence, particularly through the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) which focuses on reading literacy. This study aims to analyze the reading literacy abilities of sixth-grade students using Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) content as the assessment stimulus. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, the research was conducted at SD Negeri 055986 Kwarasan, involving 33 students. The assessment instrument categorized students into three cognitive levels: Accessing and Retrieving, Interpreting and Integrating, and Evaluating and Reflecting. The results showed that 36.4% of students achieved 'Full Understanding,' indicating the ability to evaluate the credibility of texts and relate them to external contexts. The majority (42.4%) fell into the 'Partial Understanding' category, showing proficiency in retrieving explicit information but having difficulty with integration and inference. High level. Meanwhile, 21.2% of students fall into the "Special Intervention" category, requiring intensive support for basic decoding and conceptual understanding. The findings show that although most students have basic literacy, there is a significant gap in critical analysis skills. This mapping serves as an important diagnostic tool for teachers to implement differentiated learning. The study recommends using high-achieving students as peer tutors to bridge the competency gap. These results highlight the importance of integrating science literacy into elementary education to improve Indonesia's ranking in international benchmarks like PISA
