Abstract

This study aims to analyze improvements in students’ mathematics learning outcomes through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model among students at Ali Imron Private Elementary School in Medan. This study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were elementary school students who participated in mathematics instruction using the Problem-Based Learning model. Data were collected through mathematics achievement tests administered before instruction (pretest) and after the implementation of the learning model (posttest). The data were analyzed descriptively by calculating the mean score, highest score, lowest score, percentage of mastery, difference in score improvement, and N-Gain. The results of the study are expected to show an improvement in students’ mathematics achievement following the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning model. This improvement can be seen from the difference between the average pre-test and post-test scores as well as the N-Gain scores obtained by the students. The Problem-Based Learning model provides students with the opportunity to actively engage in understanding and solving mathematical problems through thinking, discussing, and finding solutions. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning model can be an alternative learning approach that helps improve elementary school students’ mathematics learning outcomes.
