Ius Scientia: Jurnal Ilmu Hukum recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI), including generative AI and AI-assisted technologies, can support authors, reviewers, and editors in various aspects of scholarly publishing. The journal permits the responsible use of AI tools, provided that their use does not compromise academic integrity, research ethics, transparency, originality, or the accountability of scholarly work.
1. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI tools, including generative AI applications, for limited purposes such as language improvement, grammar correction, translation, formatting assistance, and other forms of editorial support.
However, AI tools must not replace the author's intellectual contribution, scholarly judgment, or responsibility for the research. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and validity of their manuscripts and all claims, arguments, data, interpretations, references, and conclusions presented in the submitted work.
AI tools must not be used to fabricate, manipulate, or falsify data, references, citations, research findings, or other scholarly content. Authors are also responsible for carefully verifying any information, references, quotations, or citations generated or suggested by AI tools.
2. Disclosure of AI Use
Authors must transparently disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies when such tools have been used in the preparation of the manuscript beyond routine spelling, grammar, or formatting assistance.
The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and briefly explain its purpose and extent of use. Such disclosure may be included in an Acknowledgment, Declaration of AI Use, or another appropriate section of the manuscript, as determined by the journal.
AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the content, comply with ethical requirements, disclose conflicts of interest, or participate in the peer-review and publication process.
3. Prohibited Uses of AI
The following uses of AI are not permitted:
- Generating or manipulating research data, experimental results, legal evidence, or research findings;
- Fabricating or falsifying references, citations, quotations, sources, or legal authorities;
- Presenting AI-generated ideas, arguments, analysis, or text as entirely the author's own without appropriate disclosure where disclosure is required;
- Using AI to conceal plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other forms of academic misconduct;
- Using AI-generated content that contains inaccurate, misleading, or unverifiable information without appropriate human verification;
- Uploading confidential manuscripts, unpublished research materials, personal data, or other protected information to AI systems without appropriate authorization and safeguards.
4. Authors' Responsibility
The use of AI does not transfer any responsibility for the manuscript from the authors to the AI tool or its developer. Authors are solely responsible for ensuring that their submissions comply with the ethical standards, publication policies, copyright requirements, and applicable laws of Ius Scientia: Jurnal Ilmu Hukum.
Authors must ensure that the use of AI does not infringe copyright, confidentiality, privacy, intellectual property rights, or the rights of other individuals or institutions.
5. Use of AI by Reviewers
Peer reviewers must not use AI tools in a manner that compromises the confidentiality of manuscripts under review. Reviewers must not upload or disclose unpublished manuscripts, research data, personal information, or other confidential materials to external AI systems unless expressly permitted by the journal and appropriate safeguards are in place.
Reviewers remain responsible for the confidentiality, fairness, independence, and quality of their review reports. AI-generated review comments must not substitute for the reviewer's own critical assessment and scholarly judgment.
6. Use of AI by Editors
Editors may use AI-assisted technologies for appropriate administrative or editorial purposes, provided that such use does not compromise confidentiality, editorial independence, research integrity, or the rights of authors and reviewers.
Editorial decisions must remain under the responsibility of the journal's editors and must be based on human judgment, scholarly standards, and the journal's established editorial and ethical policies.
7. Research Integrity and Ethical Compliance
Ius Scientia: Jurnal Ilmu Hukum considers responsible and transparent use of AI to be part of good scholarly practice. Any misuse of AI that results in plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, manipulation of research findings, violation of confidentiality, or other forms of academic misconduct may be subject to editorial action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and applicable guidelines.
If undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI is identified before or after publication, the journal may request clarification from the authors and may take appropriate action, including correction, rejection, withdrawal, or retraction of the article, depending on the nature and severity of the violation.
8. Transparency Statement
By submitting a manuscript to Ius Scientia: Jurnal Ilmu Hukum, authors confirm that they have disclosed the use of AI tools where required and that they retain full responsibility for the content and integrity of their submission.
The journal may periodically update this policy in response to developments in AI technology, scholarly publishing standards, research ethics, and applicable international guidelines.
