School Principals’ Strategies in Managing Academic Supervision to Enhance Learning Innovation in Elementary Schools
Abstract
This study examines principals’ strategies for managing academic supervision to support instructional innovation. A qualitative multiple-case design was employed in two public elementary schools. Seven purposively selected informants comprised two principals, four teachers, and one school supervisor. Interviews, observations, and documentation were analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification, supported by source and method triangulation. Findings show that supervision planning relied on reviews of teaching documents, identification of teacher needs, and schedule coordination, while systematic needs documentation remained limited. Implementation involved document reviews, classroom observations, and professional dialogue, alongside emerging innovations in teaching methods, digital media, and student engagement. Evaluation included feedback and two-way reflection, although follow-up records required strengthening. Cross-case analysis identified similar supervisory stages but context-dependent forms of instructional innovation. The study highlights the importance of connecting teacher needs, classroom evidence, and sustained professional support in academic supervision.
