Author Guidelines
The Jurnal Rekayasa Material, Manufaktur dan Energi is published by the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara, Indonesia. It is a national academic journal published online, providing open access and implementing a peer-review process. The journal aims to disseminate original theoretical and practical advances in engineering sciences, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and all interdisciplinary fields within engineering sciences.
The Jurnal Rekayasa Material, Manufaktur dan Energi is published twice a year, in January and July. The Editorial Board welcomes submissions of original research articles and literature review articles prepared in accordance with the following guidelines.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
- The manuscripts published in this journal must report research related to engineering, particularly Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, and Energy Engineering.
- Manuscripts must be original, previously unpublished, and written in proper Indonesian or English using effective academic and scientific writing conventions.
- Manuscripts should be between 7 and 10 A4 pages, including figures and tables.
- Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word (.doc) on A4-size paper, with the following formatting requirements: left margin of 3 cm; right, top, and bottom margins of 2.5 cm; Times New Roman, 11 pt; title, 14 pt bold; author names, 12 pt bold; affiliation details, including department/program, faculty, and university, 10 pt; abstract, 10 pt; and main text, 11 pt, with single line spacing.
- Manuscript formatting: Each new paragraph must begin with a first-line indentation of six character spaces from the left margin. No additional spacing should be inserted between paragraphs. All equations must be created using the Microsoft Word Equation Editor. Tables and figures must be provided with clear and informative captions.
- References: Every source cited in the manuscript must appear in the reference list, and every entry in the reference list must be cited in the manuscript.
- Manuscripts submitted to the Editorial Board must comply with the applicable formatting and writing guidelines.
- Only manuscripts considered suitable for publication, free from plagiarism, compliant with the author guidelines, and ready for publication will be accepted for publication.
- The Editorial Board reserves the right to make linguistic and layout adjustments to figures and tables without altering the substantive meaning of the manuscript. The content of the manuscript remains entirely the responsibility of the authors.
MANUSCRIPT FORMATTING AND STRUCTURE
The manuscript must be organized in the following order: Title, Author Names, Abstract and Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusions, Recommendations (if applicable), and References.
1. Title
- The title must be concise, specific, informative, clear, and consistent with the content of the manuscript. It may be written in Indonesian or English.
- The title must use Title Case (capitalize the first letter of each major word), bold formatting, Times New Roman, 14 pt, center alignment, and single line spacing. The title must not exceed 15 words and must communicate the research topic clearly and unambiguously.
2. Author Names
The names of the first author and co-authors must be written in full, without academic titles or degrees, using their official names without abbreviations.
3. Abstract and Keywords
The abstract must be written in proper Indonesian or English and must not exceed 350 words.
Keywords must be written in bold italics, with a maximum of five keywords. The abstract and keywords must not contain footnotes, literature citations, or abbreviations.
4. Introduction
The Introduction must briefly and clearly present the research background, a review of previous studies, and the research objectives. Relevant literature reviews and hypothesis development, where applicable, should also be included in this section.
5. Methods
This section must describe the research design or methodology, the population and sample, and the sampling techniques employed, as applicable to the study.
6. Results and Discussion
This section must present the research data in a concise form, together with data analysis and interpretation of the findings. The discussion should relate the findings to relevant empirical studies and/or theoretical frameworks to support their interpretation.
7. Conclusions and Recommendations (if applicable)
The Conclusions section must present the main conclusions drawn from the research. The conclusions must directly answer the research objectives rather than repeat theoretical concepts or merely summarize the discussion.
Recommendations, where applicable, must be based on the research findings and should aim to support further development, follow-up studies, or practical and theoretical applications of the research results.
8. References
References must follow the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) referencing style. All references must be accurate, complete, and consistently formatted in accordance with the Author Guidelines.
References used to establish the originality and novelty of the research, particularly in the Introduction, should preferably have been published within the last ten years.
At least 80% of the cited literature should preferably consist of primary sources, such as peer-reviewed scientific journal articles. Books presenting fundamental theoretical concepts may also be cited but should preferably account for no more than 20% of the total references.
The reference list must contain at least 15 references.
9. Tables and Figures
All tables and figures must be numbered and provided with titles or captions.
Table and figure presentation requirements:
- Tables must be left-aligned, with the table title placed above the table.
- Figures must be centered, with the figure caption centered below the figure.
- Table numbers must identify each table through a numbering system indicating the relevant chapter or section and the table's sequential number within that chapter or section.
- Tables and figures requiring more than half a page should be placed on separate pages.
