Astronomy Awareness for the Growing Global Civilisations

Alya Fathi Muhammad Hasibuan

Abstract

Astronomy is an in-depth study of celestial bodies such as planets, stars, galaxies and other phenomena of the universe. Characterised by rapid advances in technology and space exploration, astronomy not only provides insight into the origins of the universe, but also has an increasing urgency in the context of an ever-evolving globalised world. On the other hand, the science of astronomy lies in various aspects, including understanding the origin of the universe, the evolution of stars, and the study of planets outside the Solar System. Astronomical research allows humans to expand their knowledge of the universe and improve their understanding of their place in the cosmos. Astronomy also has important implications in technological fields, such as satellite navigation, interplanetary communication, and the development of protection systems from space threats such as asteroids and comets. These discoveries and understandings can contribute significantly to technological advancement and global security. In a globalised world that proved to be quite reliable this year, it is expected to suffer next year due to the pressures of war, inflation, and still-high interest rates. International growth is expected to slow to 2.7 per cent in 2024 from a pace of 2.9 per cent this year, which was the lowest annual growth since the pandemic in 2020. The world's two largest economies, the US and China, are expected to decline in growth next year, which will affect the globalised world. In this research the author uses the research method of analysis Data collected from telescopic observations and space missions can be analysed mathematically and statistically to understand the characteristics of the universe, such as the distance of stars, the composition of planetary atmospheres, or the patterns of galactic motion. The author also conducted a literature analysis to obtain information on the influence and urgency of astronomy on global affairs, as well as its effects on world civilisation. From this research, it can be concluded that astronomy is not only about researching and exploring the universe, but also about its urgency and relevance in an increasingly connected global world. Through this research, the author was able to expand human understanding of the universe, develop innovative technologies, and protecting life on Earth from space threats. As such, astronomy has a crucial role to play in human civilisation in 2024 and the foreseeable future.
