Plagiarism Check and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Plagiarism and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy

Jurnal Implementa Husada (JIH) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, transparency, and ethical scholarly publishing. All manuscripts submitted to JIH are subject to plagiarism/similarity screening and assessment of compliance with the journal's policy on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

1. Plagiarism and Similarity Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Implementa Husada will be screened using recognized similarity-detection software, such as Turnitin, iThenticate, or other equivalent plagiarism-detection software, before proceeding to the peer-review and/or publication process.

As a general editorial requirement, the overall similarity index should not exceed 25%.

However, the similarity percentage is not, by itself, considered definitive evidence of plagiarism. The editorial team will evaluate the nature, source, distribution, and context of the detected similarities.

Properly cited quotations, references, standard methodological terminology, institutional names, ethical statements, and other unavoidable similarities may be considered during editorial assessment.

Conversely, a manuscript with a similarity score below 25% may still be rejected if the editorial assessment identifies substantial plagiarism, inappropriate paraphrasing, unattributed copying, duplicate publication, or other forms of academic misconduct.

2. Manuscripts Exceeding the Similarity Threshold

Manuscripts with an overall similarity index exceeding 25% may be:

  1. Returned to the authors for revision and appropriate paraphrasing;
  2. Subjected to additional editorial assessment;
  3. Re-screened after revision; or
  4. Rejected when substantial plagiarism or serious publication misconduct is identified.

The Editor-in-Chief and/or designated editors retain the final authority to determine whether detected similarities constitute acceptable scholarly overlap or plagiarism.

3. Self-Plagiarism and Redundant Publication

Authors must avoid excessive reuse of text, data, tables, figures, or other material from their previously published works without appropriate citation and justification.

Submission of substantially the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously, duplicate publication, redundant publication, and inappropriate text recycling are not permitted.

Authors must disclose any previous publication, preprint, conference proceeding, thesis, dissertation, or other material that substantially overlaps with the submitted manuscript when relevant.

4. Limited and Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence

Jurnal Implementa Husada recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies may support certain aspects of manuscript preparation. However, their use must be limited, responsible, transparent, and subject to human oversight.

AI-assisted tools may be used for limited purposes such as:

  • Improving grammar, spelling, and readability;
  • Language editing and translation assistance;
  • Improving sentence clarity without altering the scientific meaning;
  • Assisting authors in organizing or formatting text; and
  • Other technical assistance that does not replace the author's intellectual and scientific contribution.

The use of AI does not reduce or transfer the responsibility of the authors for the accuracy, originality, integrity, validity, and reliability of the manuscript.

5. Prohibited or Unacceptable Uses of AI

Authors must not use AI or generative AI systems to:

  • Fabricate, falsify, or manipulate research data;
  • Generate fictitious research results or statistical findings;
  • Generate or fabricate references, citations, DOI numbers, or sources;
  • Create misleading or fabricated images, figures, or other research evidence;
  • Replace the authors' substantive intellectual contribution to the research;
  • Conceal plagiarism or inappropriate text recycling;
  • Misrepresent AI-generated material as independently generated scientific findings; or
  • Compromise research integrity, participant confidentiality, data protection, or publication ethics.

Any fabricated references, data, results, images, or other scientific information produced through AI may constitute grounds for manuscript rejection and further action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy.

6. AI Cannot Be an Author

Artificial Intelligence systems, Large Language Models (LLMs), chatbots, and other AI-assisted technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

Authorship requires accountability for the integrity, accuracy, originality, and validity of the published work. These responsibilities can only be assumed by human authors.

All listed authors remain fully responsible for any AI-assisted content included in the manuscript.

7. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors who use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies beyond routine spelling, grammar, or basic language correction must transparently disclose their use.

The disclosure should identify:

  • The name of the AI tool;
  • The version, where relevant;
  • The purpose for which the AI tool was used; and
  • The part of the manuscript or research process in which it was used.

AI used for writing or language assistance should be disclosed in an appropriate statement or Acknowledgments section.

When AI is used as part of the research methodology, including data collection, analysis, coding, image generation, or other research procedures, its use must be described transparently in the Methods section with sufficient detail to allow readers to understand and, where applicable, reproduce the procedure.

Suggested AI Disclosure Statement

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [NAME OF AI TOOL, VERSION] for [PURPOSE]. The author(s) subsequently reviewed, verified, and edited the generated output and take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and content of the final manuscript.

If no generative AI was used, authors may state:

The authors declare that no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the substantive preparation of this manuscript.

8. Responsibility for AI-Generated Content

Authors are fully responsible for verifying all content produced or assisted by AI.

Authors must ensure that:

  • All statements are scientifically accurate;
  • All references actually exist and support the statements for which they are cited;
  • All sources are appropriately acknowledged;
  • AI-generated text does not contain plagiarism;
  • Confidential or sensitive research information has not been improperly disclosed; and
  • The final manuscript represents the authors' own scholarly judgment and conclusions.

AI-generated output should never be considered a primary scientific source.

9. AI Detection

Jurnal Implementa Husada may use available tools and editorial assessment methods to identify potentially inappropriate use of generative AI.

However, an AI-detection score alone will not constitute definitive evidence of misconduct. Editorial decisions will be based on a comprehensive assessment of the manuscript, authors' disclosures, scientific integrity, originality, and other relevant evidence.

Authors may be requested to provide clarification regarding the use of AI when concerns arise during editorial assessment.

10. Use of AI by Editors and Reviewers

Manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Implementa Husada are confidential scholarly communications.

Editors and reviewers must not upload unpublished manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, figures, tables, research data, or other confidential submission materials into publicly accessible generative AI platforms when confidentiality and data protection cannot be assured.

If AI-assisted technology is permitted for a specific editorial purpose, its use must comply with the journal's confidentiality, transparency, data protection, and publication ethics requirements.

The scientific evaluation and editorial decision must remain under human responsibility and oversight.

11. Undisclosed or Inappropriate AI Use

Failure to disclose substantial use of generative AI, fabrication of scientific content using AI, generation of false references, manipulation of data or images, plagiarism, or other unethical AI-assisted practices may result in:

  • Request for clarification;
  • Manuscript revision;
  • Rejection of the manuscript;
  • Withdrawal of acceptance;
  • Correction or retraction after publication; and/or
  • Other actions considered appropriate under the journal's publication ethics and misconduct procedures.

12. Editorial Authority

The Editor-in-Chief of Jurnal Implementa Husada has final authority regarding the interpretation and implementation of this policy.

Editorial decisions will consider the context and severity of similarity or AI use rather than relying solely on numerical similarity scores or automated AI-detection results.

Jurnal Implementa Husada reserves the right to update this policy in response to developments in publication ethics, artificial intelligence, scholarly publishing standards, and international indexing requirements.
