Retraction Policy

Retraction, Correction, and Withdrawal Policy

Jurnal Implementa Husada (JIH) is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes its responsibility to correct the scientific literature whenever significant errors, research misconduct, ethical violations, or other circumstances affect the reliability of a published article.

This policy is guided by internationally recognized principles of publication ethics, particularly the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Retraction Guidelines, and relevant standards of responsible scholarly publishing.

1. General Principles

Jurnal Implementa Husada considers correction, expression of concern, retraction, or removal of published content when necessary to preserve the integrity of the scientific record.

Editorial actions will be based on the nature and severity of the problem identified. Decisions will be made fairly, transparently, and independently of commercial considerations.

Whenever possible, the original scholarly record will be preserved and appropriately linked to any correction, expression of concern, or retraction notice.

2. Correction

A Correction may be issued when an otherwise reliable publication contains an error or omission that does not invalidate the main findings or conclusions of the article.

Corrections may include, but are not limited to:

  • Errors in author names or affiliations;
  • Minor errors in data, tables, or figures;
  • Incorrect or incomplete acknowledgments;
  • Errors in references;
  • Errors introduced during the editorial or production process; or
  • Other inaccuracies that require correction but do not invalidate the scientific integrity of the article.

The correction notice will clearly identify the article concerned, describe the correction, and be linked electronically to the original article.

3. Retraction

Jurnal Implementa Husada may retract a published article when there is clear evidence that its findings or contents are unreliable or when serious violations of publication ethics have occurred.

Grounds for retraction may include:

  • Fabrication or falsification of data;
  • Significant errors that invalidate the findings or conclusions;
  • Plagiarism or substantial unattributed use of another person's work;
  • Duplicate or redundant publication without appropriate disclosure or justification;
  • Manipulation or fabrication of images, figures, or research data;
  • Fabricated, falsified, or substantially inaccurate references;
  • Unethical research involving human participants or animals;
  • Lack of required ethical approval or serious misrepresentation of ethical approval;
  • Serious violations of informed consent or participant confidentiality;
  • Manipulation of the peer-review or editorial process;
  • Serious undisclosed conflicts of interest affecting the reliability or interpretation of the work;
  • Inappropriate or undisclosed use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that results in fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or other serious breaches of research integrity;
  • Copyright infringement or other serious legal concerns; or
  • Other forms of serious research or publication misconduct.

Retraction is intended primarily to correct the scientific literature and protect its integrity, rather than to punish authors.

4. Retraction Notice

When an article is retracted, Jurnal Implementa Husada will publish a formal Retraction Notice.

The notice should:

  • Clearly identify the retracted article;
  • Include the article title, authors, publication information, and DOI where applicable;
  • Clearly state that the article has been retracted;
  • Explain the reason(s) for the retraction;
  • Distinguish between honest error and research or publication misconduct when this can be established;
  • Identify who initiated the retraction, where appropriate; and
  • Be freely accessible to readers.

The retraction notice will be linked to the original article, and the original article will remain identifiable as RETRACTED.

The bibliographic record and DOI should normally be maintained to preserve the integrity and transparency of the scholarly record.

5. Expression of Concern

Jurnal Implementa Husada may publish an Expression of Concern when serious questions have been raised about an article but sufficient evidence is not yet available to justify a correction or retraction.

An Expression of Concern may be appropriate when:

  • There is inconclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct;
  • An investigation is ongoing and may take considerable time;
  • There are serious concerns regarding the reliability of the findings;
  • The authors' institution has not adequately investigated the concerns; or
  • Relevant investigations have produced inconclusive results.

An Expression of Concern is an interim editorial action and may subsequently be replaced by a correction, retraction, or other appropriate notice.

6. Article Removal

Complete removal of a published article from the journal website will be considered only in exceptional circumstances.

Article removal may be considered when:

  • The article contains defamatory or otherwise unlawful material;
  • Publication violates legal rights;
  • Continued publication poses a serious and immediate risk to individuals or public safety;
  • Confidential or personally identifiable information has been published inappropriately; or
  • Removal is required by a valid legal or regulatory decision.

Where removal is necessary, the article metadata should be retained whenever legally and technically possible, together with a notice explaining why the content has been removed.

7. Article Withdrawal Before Publication

Authors may request withdrawal of a manuscript before publication by submitting a written request explaining the reason for withdrawal.

Withdrawal requests will be evaluated by the editorial office.

Manuscripts may also be withdrawn by the journal when serious ethical or procedural concerns are identified before publication, including:

  • Duplicate submission;
  • Plagiarism;
  • Fabrication or falsification;
  • Unauthorized submission;
  • Serious authorship disputes;
  • Ethical violations; or
  • Manipulation of the peer-review process.

Once an article has been formally published, concerns regarding its validity or integrity will normally be handled through correction or retraction rather than manuscript withdrawal.

8. Retraction Request and Investigation

Concerns regarding a published article may be submitted by authors, readers, reviewers, editors, institutions, research integrity officers, or other parties.

Upon receiving a credible concern, the editorial team may:

  1. Conduct an initial assessment;
  2. Request clarification and supporting documentation from the authors;
  3. Consult reviewers, editorial board members, or independent experts when necessary;
  4. Contact the authors' institution or relevant ethics committee when appropriate;
  5. Evaluate the evidence in accordance with publication ethics principles; and
  6. Determine whether correction, expression of concern, retraction, removal, or no further action is appropriate.

Authors will normally be given an opportunity to respond to allegations before a final decision is made, except when immediate action is required for legal, ethical, or public-safety reasons.

9. Author Agreement or Disagreement

A retraction may proceed with or without the agreement of the authors when the Editor-in-Chief determines that sufficient evidence exists to justify retraction.

Authors' disagreement with a retraction decision does not prevent Jurnal Implementa Husada from taking appropriate editorial action to protect the integrity of the scientific record.

The journal will document relevant correspondence and evidence associated with the investigation.

10. Authorship Disputes

Authorship disputes that do not affect the validity or reliability of the published findings will not normally result in retraction.

When appropriate, authorship errors may be addressed through a formal correction after sufficient documentation and agreement have been obtained or following the recommendations of the relevant institution.

11. Artificial Intelligence and Retraction

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or AI-assisted technologies does not in itself constitute grounds for retraction when such use complies with the journal's AI policy.

However, retraction may be considered when AI has been used to:

  • Fabricate or falsify data;
  • Generate fictitious references or sources;
  • Create misleading scientific images or results;
  • Conceal plagiarism;
  • Produce unreliable scientific content that materially affects the conclusions;
  • Breach participant confidentiality; or
  • Commit other serious violations of research or publication integrity.

Human authors remain fully accountable for all content published under their names.

12. Post-Retraction Accessibility

Except in cases requiring legal removal, a retracted article will normally remain accessible on the journal website for transparency and preservation of the scholarly record.

The electronic version should be clearly marked as RETRACTED, while retaining the original DOI and bibliographic information.

The retraction notice and original article should be electronically linked to each other whenever technically possible.

13. Indexing and Metadata

When an article is corrected, retracted, or subject to an Expression of Concern, Jurnal Implementa Husada will make reasonable efforts to ensure that the status is accurately reflected in the journal's metadata and communicated to relevant indexing, abstracting, DOI registration, and preservation services where applicable.

14. Editorial Independence

Decisions regarding corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are editorial decisions.

The Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Editorial Board and/or independent experts where necessary, has final editorial responsibility for determining the appropriate action.

Decisions must be based on the integrity and reliability of the scholarly record and must not be influenced by the authors' status, institutional affiliation, commercial interests, or other inappropriate considerations.

15. Appeals

Authors may submit a reasoned appeal against a retraction or other post-publication editorial decision.

An appeal should provide relevant evidence demonstrating why the editorial decision should be reconsidered.

Where appropriate, the appeal may be reviewed by an editor or independent expert who was not substantially involved in the original decision.

Submission of an appeal does not automatically suspend an editorial action when maintaining the action is necessary to protect the integrity of the scientific record.

16. Policy References

This policy is developed with reference to internationally recognized publication ethics and scholarly publishing standards, particularly:

  • Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) – Retraction Guidelines;
  • International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) Recommendations; and
  • Principles of transparency, research integrity, and responsible scholarly publishing relevant to international indexing and abstracting services.

Jurnal Implementa Husada reserves the right to update this policy in accordance with developments in publication ethics, research integrity standards, and international scholarly publishing practices.
