References Management

References Management

Intiqad: Jurnal Agama dan Pendidikan Islam requires all authors to manage citations and references accurately, consistently, and transparently. The journal adopts the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition referencing style for all submitted and published manuscripts. Authors must ensure that all sources cited in the manuscript appear in the reference list and that every entry in the reference list is cited in the manuscript.

1. Citation and Referencing Style

All manuscripts submitted to Intiqad: Jurnal Agama dan Pendidikan Islam must follow the APA 7th Edition referencing style. In-text citations generally use the author-date system, consisting of the author's surname and the year of publication. Direct quotations must include the page number or another appropriate locator when available.

For example:

  • Parenthetical citation: (Rahman, 2024)
  • Narrative citation: Rahman (2024)
  • Direct quotation: (Rahman, 2024, p. 25)
  • Two authors: (Rahman & Abdullah, 2023)
  • Three or more authors: (Rahman et al., 2022)

2. Reference Accuracy and Completeness

Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy and completeness of all bibliographic information. References must include the necessary details according to APA 7th Edition, such as author names, publication year, title, journal or publisher information, volume, issue, page range, and DOI or URL, where applicable.

Authors must not include fabricated, misleading, incomplete, or unverifiable references. All bibliographic details must be checked against the original source.

3. Use of Reference Management Software

Authors are encouraged to use reference management software, such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote, to organize references and maintain consistent citation formatting. Reference management software should be configured to use an APA 7th Edition style when preparing manuscripts for submission.

The use of reference management software does not eliminate the authors' responsibility to verify the accuracy, relevance, and completeness of every citation and reference.

4. Quality and Relevance of References

Authors should prioritize relevant, credible, and authoritative scholarly sources, including peer-reviewed journal articles, academic books, and other reliable publications. References should be appropriate to the research objectives, methodology, and discussion.

Authors are encouraged to consult recent scholarly literature when relevant, while foundational works and historical sources may be cited when they provide essential theoretical, historical, or conceptual context.

5. DOI and Online Sources

Authors must include the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for cited publications whenever one is available. DOIs should be presented as clickable links in the following format:

https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx

For online sources without a DOI, authors should provide a valid URL when required by APA 7th Edition. Bibliographic details must follow the appropriate format for the source type, such as a journal article, book, book chapter, report, webpage, or other scholarly material.

6. Ethical Citation Practices

Authors must acknowledge all sources that have contributed to their research, arguments, data, and interpretations. The following practices are prohibited:

  • Plagiarism and failure to acknowledge the original source of ideas or text.
  • Inappropriate self-citation intended solely to increase citation counts.
  • Citation manipulation or coercive citation practices.
  • Inclusion of irrelevant references intended to artificially increase the citation metrics of an author, editor, reviewer, or journal.
  • Citation of sources that the authors have not consulted or cannot independently verify.
  • Misrepresentation of the findings or arguments of cited works.

7. Primary and Secondary Sources

Authors are encouraged to consult and cite primary sources whenever possible. Secondary sources may be used when appropriate, but authors must distinguish between original findings and interpretations reported by other researchers.

For research in religion and Islamic education, authors should provide accurate references to relevant primary texts, scholarly interpretations, and authoritative academic publications, as appropriate to the research topic and methodology.

8. Editorial Verification

The editorial team of Intiqad: Jurnal Agama dan Pendidikan Islam may examine the accuracy, relevance, completeness, and consistency of citations and references during the editorial screening and peer-review processes.

Authors may be requested to correct incomplete citations, verify questionable sources, remove irrelevant references, or revise the reference list to comply with APA 7th Edition. Failure to address significant reference-related problems may affect the editorial decision.

9. Reference List Formatting and Consistency

The reference list must be arranged alphabetically by the surname of the first author, following APA 7th Edition guidelines. Authors must apply the appropriate formatting rules for each source type, including author names, publication dates, titles, journal details, publisher information, DOI links, and URLs.

Authors must ensure that:

  • Every in-text citation corresponds to an entry in the reference list, except for source types that APA 7th Edition treats differently.
  • Every work listed in the reference list is cited in the manuscript, except where APA 7th Edition or the journal's specific instructions provide otherwise.
  • Author names and publication years are consistent between in-text citations and reference entries.
  • The reference list uses the appropriate APA 7th Edition formatting, including hanging indentation.
  • DOIs and URLs are accurate and functional wherever possible.

10. Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors who use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist with reference discovery or bibliography preparation must independently verify every source against reliable bibliographic records or the original publication.

AI-generated references that are fabricated, inaccurate, or unverifiable must not be included in a manuscript. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, relevance, and integrity of all citations and references, regardless of the tools used to prepare them.

11. Official APA Style Reference

Authors are encouraged to consult the official APA Style website for detailed guidance on citations, reference lists, and source-specific formatting:
